Community Lead

Jan 28

Company Description:

Gowalla is a social game played in the real world. It uses augmented reality to inspire people to  explore their city, discover new places, and create shared experiences with friends.

In preparation of our flagship app launch in Summer 2021, we recently released the Gowalla Street Team app, a private companion experience where passionate explorers can curate their cities and neighborhoods with information useful for inclusion in the core Gowalla app.

We are a small, remote-native team led by social and consumer software veterans. We've designed and built products at early-stage startups as well as established technology companies like Apple, Facebook, and Instagram. We're backed by industry-leading VCs and prominent angel investors from a unique collection of backgrounds.

Job Description:

We Believe
  • Our relationships with real-world locations, experiences, and memories are core to our personal identity. The places we go speak to our passions, values, and desires for connection as people.
  • Community is as important to the success of our endeavor as product, engineering, or design. The most loved companies of the future will make community a core pillar of their brand.
  • The devices we carry with us are still bursting with untapped potential to connect with the world we live in every day. We aim to manifest magical experiences from the future now.

What You'll Do

You'll design systems that engage and reward our Street Team. You'll determine which Street Team activities improve and differentiate our real world game system, and you'll devise incentives and instructions that guide our Street Team in the best direction. You'll use software like Airtable and Zapier to stand in the gap for internal processes that lack custom tools.

You'll be an evangelist. You'll use email, social media, and even physical mediums like the postal service to connect with our community around the world. You'll welcome new people to Gowalla, ensuring that they feel valued by our team and within the community.

You'll set the tone for our community. Your words will inform, encourage, protect, and motivate our Street Team to treat one another with respect and kindness. Your insight will help inform our community guidelines and collective company voice.

You'll provide guidance to our product team. As the primary point of contact for many of our community members, the feedback and ideas you provide will help shape and prioritize the  products we ultimately ship.

We are committed to assembling an unrivaled team of artists, technologists, and adventurers who aim to create a new way to explore the world. As an early crew member, you'll have enormous impact on both our product and company culture. If you're excited about our mission, and believe you might be a fit, we'd love to hear from you.

Who You Are

You love people. You understand our innate desires for community and belonging, and aim to make others feel valued. You listen carefully and are empathetic. You look out for people's best interests, protect them from bad actors, and foster environments where they feel safe and welcome.

You communicate clearly and enjoy writing. You’re comfortable speaking to a public audience through social media, and can confidently communicate detailed information, policies, and guidelines through private channels. Your writing style is clear, concise, optimistic, and witty.

You're a maker and motivator. You're curious and like to tinker. The internet is second nature to you. You understand that when tools and incentives are aligned properly, a community can accomplish goals far greater than one could ever imagine.

You're an energy-giver. You don't wait to be told what to do. You recognize where there is need and step in to solve challenges. People who spend time with you are excited to join you in your endeavors. Your ideas are infectious.
